Frequently Asked Questions

Please use the links below for answers to any questions or queries you may have regarding the content of this site.

Do you have different sized delivery vehicles?

Yes. We have four, six and eight wheeled tankers, as well as large articulated lorries, so we can deliver a large range of fuels and volumes to most locations. If your property is on a narrow lane, or access is restricted, please let us know, as we may need to deliver in a smaller tanker.

Does it matter if my tank is a little way from the road? Will you still be able to deliver?

Most of our tankers have a 120ft hose, which can be pulled out to make the delivery. This means we can usually deliver to any property, even if your tank is tucked away and seemingly hard to get to.

Is there a minimum amount I can have delivered?

Yes our minimum delivery is 500 litres. All Emo Oil deliveries are recorded by a ticketed meter, and these are calibrated to accurately record the amount of fuel pumped. Below 500 litres there is a small chance that the reading could be inaccurate. We do occasionally sell smaller quantities in barrels, so it's worth enquiring when you call to place your order.

Do I need to be at home when my oil is delivered?

We will be able to deliver even if you are not at home, providing our driver can access the tank. As all deliveries are metered you will receive a printed ticket which shows the precise amount you have received.

What is Signalman?

Signalman is an automatic fuel tank gauge, which allows Emo Oil to monitor your oil level for you. When the level is starting to look low, we will automatically place an order for you and then come out to top up your tank before you run out. This means you no longer have the inconvenience of checking your tank and ordering fuel yourself.

How can I get advice on running my home heating system more efficiently?

OFTEC is the organisation responsible for looking after the oil heating and cooking industry throughout the UK and Ireland. The OFTEC website has a wide range of information, including some great tips for increasing the efficiency of your home heating system.

Once I have placed an order how long will it take for my heating oil to arrive?

We will usually deliver to you within 3 to 5 days. However during busy times the delivery window may become wider. If you need a quick delivery please make sure you notify us when you place your order. To make sure you never run out it's a good idea to keep checking your oil level or to join our planned delivery scheme.

How often should I get my heating oil boiler serviced?

It is a good idea to get your boiler serviced once a year. If you do this regularly you will find that your boiler will operate more efficiently and have a longer working life.

What is the difference between kerosene and gas oil?

Kerosene, also known as 28-second oil (or more commonly home heating oil), is produced after the distillation process of crude oil. Most domestic systems run on kerosene because it provides a cleaner and more efficient burn for your home.

Gas oil (red diesel), also known as 35-second oil, is more commonly used in agriculture and industry. Gas oil is less combustible than kerosene and has more carbon atoms.

Can 'Premium' kerosene improve the efficiency of my boiler?

Yes. Emo Oil supplies a range of specialist kerosenes which reduces energy consumption and extends the life of heating systems by leaving fewer deposits in the tank, filter and nozzle of the system; in addition a special corrosion inhibitor protects the metal parts of the system, making it significantly more efficient.

What are the different payment options available to me?

At Emo Oil we accept payment by direct debit, cheque, credit/debit card or via internet or phone banking. Our Easy Payment Plan enables you to spread the cost of your fuel into more manageable, monthly amounts. For more information speak to your local Emo team who will be happy to advise you on the best options for you.

What if I discover a leak or spill?

If you have an oil spill, ring the Environment Agency emergency hotline on 0800 80 70 60. It's also a good idea to have a spill kit on hand so you can mop up the worst straight away. This should contain absorbent materials, drain blockers and leak sealing putty.

How can I protect my oil from thieves?

Emo Oil has a monitoring device that can detect sudden oil drops that may occur due to a leak or theft. For more details, please refer to our section on futher services. The 'Watchman' Alarm will sound an alarm should your oil level drop suddenly.
